Pooks the Quokka

Taxi driver. French hornist. Island MVP of good vibes and goal-line deliveries.

Species & Role

Species: Quokka (Setonix brachyurus)

Role: Co-operator of Palo Miki’s taxi service, running pickups and drop-offs in her decked-out tropical golf cart, and part-time French horn player for any occasion including breakfast. Her job: get you there with a smile (and probably a sports pun).

Visual Signature

  • Soccer-Themed Gear: Jersey-style crop top, striped tube socks, and a whistle around her neck, even when she’s not refereeing anything.
  • Taxi Golf Cart: Yellow, green, and decked out in stickers, horn replaced with a honking vuvuzela.
  • French Horn: Strapped to her back like a sword. She’ll play it for celebrations, pick-ups, or to interrupt awkward silences.
  • Big Quokka Grin: Her trademark smile melts hearts, disarms enemies, and occasionally gets her out of parking tickets.

Primary Hangout

Pooks’ Taxi Hub: A tropical garage-slash-hammock zone near the island’s main path, cluttered with tire pumps, energy drinks, and a chalkboard of weird custom rides she’s tested (including the brief hover-banana phase).

Personality

Optimistic. Spunky. Endlessly enthusiastic. Pooks is the island’s energy source wrapped in a quokka’s body. She runs late, laughs early, and thinks everything’s more fun when timed like a relay race. She’s loyal to the core, loves weird detours, and believes life should be scored like a match: loud, fast, and full of confetti.

Backstory

Once a junior coach for a mainland youth soccer camp, Pooks was famous for her inspirational pep talks and absurd halftime routines. After a mix-up involving fireworks, trail mix, and a stolen mascot suit, she left town with a horn and a duffel bag. She found Palo Miki by accident and stayed because “it felt like extra time on a really good day.”

Philosophy

“Every day’s a match. You just gotta pick a direction and go full tilt.”

Pooks believes that movement is joy, mistakes are just creative pivots, and you can solve almost any problem with a ride, a joke, or a blast of brass.

Catchphrases

  • “Get in loser, we’re going to inner peace.”
  • “If you’re not cheering, you’re not trying.”
  • “Horn solos fix everything.”
  • “Drive like everyone’s watching and you’re proud of your playlist.”

Key Relationships

  • Phil: She calls him “Chill Coach.” He lets her ramble, then says something weirdly wise. She loves it.
  • Capy: He grumbles every time she crashes into the Coconut’s tiki fence. She fixes it. He still grumbles.
  • Skye: Pooks is Skye’s test driver for unstable inventions. Skye says, “Pooks is fearless.” Pooks says, “What’s a brake line?”
  • Tilly: Tilly uses her as a news source. Pooks pretends she doesn’t know anything, then spills all the tea by accident.
  • Gus: Their friendship is pure chaos. He made her a playlist titled Goal-Getter Grooves Vol. 7.
  • Lobes: She once honked her horn directly at him. He blinked twice. She still talks about it like it was a conversation.

Hidden Depth

Beneath the energy, Pooks hides an intense fear of being forgotten. She tries to be everywhere at once delivering, helping, playing, cheering not just because she loves it, but because silence makes her feel invisible. She journals every ride she gives, titling each entry like a championship match.

She’s secretly saving up to build a second cart for “whoever comes next.”
